About YVP

Mission

YVP is a writers’ organization that aims to democratize and expand access to creative writing materials for young writers across the United States. We curate writing curricula, organize writing programs, and assemble platforms—all for young writers—to broaden and strengthen youth voices in their communities.

For young writers, by young writers.

Roots

YVP began in 2023 as a local creative writing toolkit in Philadelphia, where a few student volunteers mentored local students in academic and creative writing. Today, those roots now span presence in six states coordinated by a passionate team of young writers and leaders who are excited to spread and engage with youth voices and prepare them for their next chapter of writing, sharing, and expressing.

As an organization, we believe that writing is intrinsic to thinking. As such, we continue to invest in the continual process of writing not only for the joy of writing—but for the rewards and gifts it grants every writer. We are committed to diversifying and expanding the dissemination of youth narratives, connecting talented young writers and literary advocates across the globe.

@yvpwriter, we’re looking to foster the next generation of young storytellers. Today, we help them craft their stories and amplify them before a new audience. Tomorrow, we hope to hear from them—storytellers of a new generation.

Our Goals

Expanding Resources.

Our Young Writers Toolkit is the first comprehensive, digitized, and free-to-access guide to all things creative writing. Published serially and containing a wealth of craft-focused guides, prompt generators, and editing and revision exercises, we aim to make the creative writing journey accessible for everyone.

Assembling Audiences.

We partner with experienced teen writers and adult professionals to host open lectures and speaker events on topics ranging from craft to literary publishing to college admissions. We also host regular informal readings and workshops to engage youth voices and spur their storytelling.

Creating Community.

Creative writing is not a solitary activity. Our directors and chapter leaders all regularly organize and conduct local creative writing events in their own communities, building a network of young writers hailing from every region of the United States.
